“Tuff Hedeman and the boys are back in town,” said Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo Announcer Andy Stewart Monday (July 20th) afternoon. Back in town they were as Richard “Tuff” Hedeman and the Championship Bull Riding (CBR), brought some spectacular bull riding to Cheyenne Nights. “We are riding bulls in Cheyenne,” said Clint Craig, CBR Commenter, as we watched them cover 29 of the 51 rides on Monday night.
Monday night kicked off with the top 25 CBR bull riders each getting on two bulls. Chandler Bownds was one of the high point cowboys of the night scoring 90 points on Mike Rawson’s Ravens Mistake, sending the bull off to retirement in style. Corey Maier and Elliot Jacoby each posted 87 point rides. Jacob O’Mara bounced back from his first bull to score 88 points on Harris Bucking Bulls #2's Flea Flicker. Young gun, Wyatt Rogers, was not to be out done and covered both his bulls scoring 86 and 89 points.
“I’ll let my actions do the work,” said the number one man Cody Teel, which is exactly what he did. Teel rode Barn2Buck/The Jaynes Gang's Hez Twisted for 88.5 points and then went on to ride Rockin R Bucking Bulls' Rogaine for 86 points. Teel’s scores for the night edged Sage Kimzey, the number two man, by 34 points.
2015 CBR World Champion Cody Teel
The CBR bull riders had to cowboy up on Tuesday (July 21st) night as the rain poured and the arena filled with mud. Tuesday followed the standard CBR format with Round One, Semi-Finals, and Shoot Out Round. Ardie Maier kicked off the night with 87.5 points on General Lee of Harris Bucking Bulls #2. Wyatt Rogers put up 86 points on Bullionare of Hurst Pro Rodeo. Jacob O’Mara posted 88 points on Hell Pony of Silver Creek Rodeo/-D Cattle/Vogele Bulls. Aaron Pass led the leader board with 90.5 points on Too Juicy of Rawson/Probst. Cody Teel, who was stepped on Monday night and had re-injured his ankle, brought true grit with his 87.5 point ride on One More Dip of Championship Pro Rodeo/Elite Buckin Bulls #1.
The Semi-Finals saw Aaron Pass post 89 points and Jacob O’Mara with 88.5 points. Cody Teel sealed the deal with his 90.5 point ride on Firehouse of Folds/Winston/Strickland/Melton Bull Co and became the 2015 Championship Bull Riding World Champion and the winner of the 100,000 bonus check.
Teel didn’t stop there though. With a broken ankle, we watched him get on in the final round and score 90.5 points on The Jaynes Gang/Team Dial & Mead’s Pain Killer. “He just went ahead on got on because he is a cowboy,” said Clint Craig. He was edged by Brennon, “The Juice”, Eldred for the event title by just two points.
Prior to the event, Teel said in order to win the World Title he would need to ride with consistency. Riding five for five was exactly the consistency that won him that title. Congratulations Cody!
